The issue of public safety and crime prevention in politics is one that will be rewarded by voters. Last summer, Colorado Republicans were quick to recognize this and launched a platform to address it. An important part of crime prevention is to reduce crime through community education. Each division's crime prevention officer can provide training presentations on a variety of topics.

The Cañon City Police Department is a contemporary and progressive, full-service, state-accredited, law enforcement agency dedicated to community policing. They are proud to form community associations, treat all people fairly, strictly comply with constitutional norms, and reduce the fear of crime in their community through the use of the latest crime prevention techniques and law enforcement initiatives. The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) currently consists of more than 50 professionals who are dedicated to providing public safety and have been doing so for over 100 years. Colorado Governor Jared Polis has stated his goal is to make Colorado one of the 10 safest states in the country over the next five years.

To help achieve this goal, telephone surveys are conducted by criminal justice students from the University of Colorado Springs. The Colorado Police Chiefs Association, the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police and sheriffs from Colorado counties have all shared their position on this issue in a letter to the governor. Citizens can report a crime or suspicious activity to the Colorado Springs Police Department in several ways. They can call 911 for emergencies or call 719-444-7000 for non-emergencies.

They can also submit an online report or visit their local police station.
